I hope you didn’t come here looking for the answer to the title, because I don’t know. I was hoping you knew.
When I started college I had a plan. Get a 4.0 all four years, learn a second language, double major and minor, and have a job lined up before graduation. I didn’t get a 4.0 any years, I am still working on that second language, and I dropped my minor. However, I did complete two majors, and I am interning. Does that count? I like to think so. I am not officially unemployed yet.
The job search is tedious. I just don’t understand. Who wouldn’t want to hire an inexperienced new grad? Come on now! But I have also have standards. Just like companies turn me down, I do the same. No, I will not work 10 hours a day for your, $35,000 sales cold calling job, with good benefits. I am unemployed, I am hungry, I do need clothes, but I am blessed. I will find you job! Just somethings I will not fold for.
The continuous journey of application after application is so tiring. The application is the easy part, but the cover letter is the worst part for me. Yes, I format my cover letter for each individual employer. (Well most of them). I just don’t think I can get a job with a general cover letter. Amy said, “You aren’t getting a job with the cover letters you do have.” Sometimes you just gotta ignore Amy.
Anyways, if you are a new grad, unemployed and hungry, you are not alone.
